Seasonal Events
Our church calendar follows a circular cycle that coincides with the changing of the Seasons:
- Advent in December, leading up to Christmas;
- Lent in the winter, leading up to the great mystery and celebration of Holy Week and Easter;
- Easter, which is the great 50 Days (10 more than the 40 days of Lent!);
- and finally Pentecost, the “birthday of the church”, when the disciples received the fiery gift of the Holy Spirit.
Each season is identified with specific colours that are reflected in the vestments of the Clergy and on banners in the church. Other weeks in the circle are called “Ordinary Time”, but we call them “Green Growing Time”, during which time green dominates the vestments and banners around the church.
